Janeese Lewis George

In 2020, Janeese Lewis George beat a long-time incumbent who didn’t represent the community's progressive values. The campaign team knew they needed a strong field program, but when COVID-19 hit three months before the election, they had to make a significant shift online. Digital ads went from a tactic the campaign couldn’t afford to one they relied on to win. That’s when Ravenna Strategies joined the team.

We developed a strong message and visual identity that was used everywhere the campaign communicated. 

Voting by mail was new to DC voters, and the process was very confusing, especially to older community members. The campaign set up a hotline staffed by volunteers to answer questions and drive people to polling places. A page about voting on the campaign website had more straightforward instructions than the city's voter information page had. We pushed voters to these resources using targeted digital ads on Facebook, Google Search, native ads, and Pandora streaming audio.
